Sulfadiazine & Trimethoprim Oral Antibacterial Suspension


Composition

Each ml contains:
Sulfadiazine ........................................ 400 mg
Trimethoprim ....................................... 80 mg
Excipients ............................................. q.s. to 1 ml

Indications

SULFATRINOR® Oral Suspension is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by sulfadiazine- and trimethoprim-sensitive microorganisms, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections

  • Gastrointestinal infections

  • Enteritis and diarrhea

  • Colibacillosis

  • Salmonellosis

  • Pasteurellosis

  • Urinary tract infections

  • Septicemia

  • Secondary bacterial infections


Target Species

  • Poultry (broilers & breeders)

  • Calves

  • Lambs

  • Kids

  • Sheep & goats


Mechanism of Action

Sulfadiazine and trimethoprim act synergistically by sequential inhibition of folic acid synthesis, resulting in a bactericidal effect against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.


Dosage & Administration

For oral administration via drinking water or direct oral dosing.

Poultry

  • 1 ml per 2–4 liters of drinking water
    for 3–5 consecutive days

Calves, Sheep & Goats

  • 1 ml per 10–15 kg body weight
    Once daily for 3–5 consecutive days

📌 Ensure medicated water is the only source of drinking water during treatment.
📌 Shake well before use.


Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides or trimethoprim

  • Do not use in animals with severe renal or hepatic impairment

  • Avoid prolonged continuous use


Side Effects

  • Generally well tolerated

  • Rare gastrointestinal disturbances

  • Crystalluria may occur if adequate hydration is not maintained


Withdrawal Period

(Indicative – subject to local regulations)

  • Meat:
    Poultry & ruminants: 7–10 days

  • Milk:
    3–5 days

  • Eggs:
    According to local regulatory approval


Special Warnings

  • Ensure adequate water intake during treatment

  • Avoid under-dosing to reduce resistance risk

  • Observe antimicrobial stewardship principles

  • Store below 25°C

  • Protect from direct sunlight

  • Do not freeze

  • Keep out of reach of children

  • 24 months from date of manufacture

  • Use within 28 days after first opening
