Therapeutic Class

Fluoroquinolone antibacterial.

Indications

NORFLOX-NOR® 20 Oral Liquid is indicated for the treatment of bacterial gastrointestinal and urinary tract infections caused by norfloxacin-sensitive microorganisms, including:

• Colibacillosis (E. coli)

• Salmonellosis

• Enteritis

• Bacterial diarrhea

• Urinary tract infections

• Secondary bacterial infections

Target Species

• Poultry (broilers, breeders*)

• Calves

• Lambs & kids

*Use in laying birds producing eggs for human consumption according to local regulations.

Mechanism of Action

Norfloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, resulting in rapid bactericidal activity against Gram-negative and selected Gram-positive bacteria.

Dosage & Administration

For oral administration via drinking water or direct oral dosing.

Poultry

• 10–15 mg norfloxacin/kg body weight/day
  (Equivalent to 0.5–0.75 ml per liter of drinking water)
  for 3–5 consecutive days

Calves, Sheep & Goats

• 10 mg norfloxacin/kg body weight
  Once daily for 3–5 days

📌 Ensure medicated water is the only source of drinking water during treatment.
📌 Shake well before use.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones

• Do not use in animals with known cartilage disorders

• Avoid use in growing animals unless strictly indicated

• Do not use concurrently with other fluoroquinolones

Side Effects

• Generally well tolerated

• Rare gastrointestinal disturbances

• Overdose may cause nervous signs

Withdrawal Period

(Indicative – subject to local regulations)

• Meat:
  Poultry & ruminants: 7–10 days

• Eggs:
  Not approved for use in laying birds producing eggs for human consumption

Special Warnings

• Use only when sensitivity is expected

• Avoid unnecessary or prolonged use

• Observe antimicrobial stewardship principles
