Composition

Each ml contains:
Colistin sulfate ........................................ 200,000 IU
Spectinomycin
(as dihydrochloride pentahydrate) .... 50 mg
Excipients .................................................. q.s. to 1 ml

Indications

COLISPEC-NOR® Oral Solution is indicated for the treatment of bacterial gastrointestinal and respiratory infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:

• Colibacillosis (E. coli)

• Salmonellosis

• Enteritis

• Bacterial diarrhea

• Chronic respiratory disease (CRD)

• Pasteurellosis

• Secondary bacterial infections

Target Species

• Poultry (broilers, layers*, breeders)

• Calves

• Lambs & kids

*Use in laying birds producing eggs for human consumption according to local regulations.

Mechanism of Action

• Colistin disrupts the cell membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, leading to rapid bactericidal action.

• Spectinomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, particularly effective against E. coli and Mycoplasma.

The combination provides synergistic antibacterial activity, especially in enteric infections.

Dosage & Administration

For oral administration via drinking water or direct oral dosing.

Poultry

• 1 ml per 1–2 liters of drinking water
  for 3–5 consecutive days

Calves, Sheep & Goats

• 1 ml per 10 kg body weight
  Once daily for 3–5 days

📌 Ensure medicated water is the only source of drinking water during treatment.
📌 Shake well before use.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to colistin or spectinomycin

• Severe renal impairment

• Avoid prolonged or unnecessary use

Side Effects

• Generally well tolerated

• Rare mild digestive disturbances

• Prolonged use may affect intestinal microflora

Withdrawal Period

(Indicative – subject to local regulations)

• Meat:
  Poultry: 5–7 days
  Ruminants: 5–7 days

• Eggs:
  According to local regulatory approval

Special Warnings

• Use only when bacterial sensitivity is expected

• Avoid misuse to reduce antimicrobial resistance

• Observe antimicrobial stewardship principles
