Composition

Each ml contains:
Phenylbutazone ........................................ 200 mg
Excipients ................................................ q.s. to 1 ml


Pharmaceutical Form

Sterile injectable solution for veterinary use.


Therapeutic Class

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).


Indications

BUTANOR® 20 Injection is indicated for the treatment of inflammation, pain, and fever associated with:

  • Musculoskeletal disorders

  • Lameness

  • Arthritis and joint inflammation

  • Soft tissue injuries

  • Post-operative pain

  • Inflammatory conditions in horses


Target Species

  • Horses

  • Cattle (according to veterinary judgment)

⚠️ Primarily indicated for horses.


Mechanism of Action

Phenylbutazone inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis and resulting in strong anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects.


Dosage & Administration

For intravenous (IV) injection only.

Horses

  • Initial dose:
    4.4 mg phenylbutazone/kg body weight
    (Equivalent to 1 ml per 45 kg body weight)

  • Maintenance dose:
    2.2 mg/kg once daily if required

Cattle

  • Use only under veterinary supervision.

📌 Administer slowly IV only.
📌 Do NOT administer intramuscularly.


Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to phenylbutazone or other NSAIDs

  • Gastrointestinal ulcers

  • Severe renal, hepatic, or cardiac impairment

  • Dehydrated animals

  • Do not use concurrently with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids


Side Effects

  • Gastrointestinal irritation or ulceration

  • Renal toxicity with prolonged use

  • Injection site irritation (if improperly administered)


Withdrawal Period

(Indicative – subject to local regulations)

  • Meat:
    Cattle: 7–10 days

  • Milk:
    Not approved for use in lactating animals producing milk for human consumption

⚠️ Not permitted in horses intended for human consumption in many countries.


Special Warnings

  • Strictly adhere to recommended dosage

  • Ensure adequate hydration

  • Use only under veterinary supervision

  • Observe anti-doping regulations in performance horses


Storage Conditions

  • Store below 25°C

  • Protect from light

  • Do not freeze

  • Keep out of reach of children


Shelf Life

  • 24 months from date of manufacture

  • Use immediately after first opening
